Hello, my friends!!
So, I read an article called Psychology Today written by Marlynn Wei M.D., J.D. she talked on how a lot of the time patients go in to see their doctors and 80-90% of visits are STRESS-RELATED! When I first read the stats I was in shock; However, once I pondered on stress I realized my gosh we have a lot of problems with our health. When I am personally stressed my stomach begins to twist and turn where I am constantly anxious. When there is too much happening in my life my body begins to shut down. My fiance has IBS which in his situation is caused by too much stress and now my soon-to-be husband is taking medication to relieve his stress. However, he started Yoga with me!! Yay!! I read to my fiance the benefits of Yoga the weight loss and stress relief was a big hit to him especially since we are getting married in August!!
Yoga has a philosophy of self-compassion and awareness according to the article “One of the main concepts in yoga is being non-judgmental toward both yourself and others, which is a powerful tool for stress relief since much of our stress comes from us being hard on ourselves or frustrated with others.” I have only been doing Yoga for a month now and I am already experiencing the benefits. Yoga is keeping my mind on healthier habits, I quit negative habits and began to and began to train my body to be able to cope with stress and my well-being. I began to see I am losing weight and increasing my water intake which is making me feel happier and healthier. Yoga also helped with my relationship before Yoga my fiance and I had a hard time finding things to do together that we can both do (he has just had knee surgery). When he saw me to Yoga he asked to try it out and teach him some moves!! Hahaha my heart was full of joy I am really happy he is stepping out of his comfort zone to begin this journey with me!!
Today, I have gone onto Pinterest and found a great article that shows me how to do five essential Yin Yoga Poses for stress relief. The article teaches you how to go into a Pigeon Pose, Child’s Pose, Seated Spinal Twist, Wide-Leg Standing Foward fold, and the Supin Butterfly Pose. The article also explains how long to hold the poses for!! It took me a half hour to complete, and after I was finished I felt so refreshed! As well I had no idea how much Yoga can make you break a sweat. My favorite position would be the Child’s Pose, as I was in position I could feel the stretch in my back; When I took a deep breath in and out I could feel my body relaxing with me. I have never felt such a great feeling, as well I have never felt more relaxed!
Here are some photos of the different positions I have learned:
Feedly where have you been my whole life?! Family and friends are you thirsty for knowledge, and want to read articles that fit your interests? Tired of having to scroll through your social media to find topics that interest you? Well look no further, Feedly is here!!
Before I met Feedly, I would have to scroll through my whole news feed on different social media accounts that I am apart of. Sometimes it would take me ten mins to find the juicy stuff, sometimes it would take me an hour it sucks I know. However, for my #EDTC300 class we were given options Feedly/Digg/Inoreader well obviously I chose Feedly. I have never been so in love!! Feedly allows me to easily chose resources that may fit my interests for new information. Feedly aggregates content into one place making it easy for me to read headlines and stories of my choosing. The app is easy to set up and only takes a few minutes. I am trying out the FREE version and seriously wanting to upgrade because of how impressed I am with the app!!
Two feeds I currently have are #Education and #Edtech I chose these two as my feeds because I do not have an app which is specifically for my teaching career. I use the #Education feed to find sources that help me find new ways to create my classroom in the future. I use it as a guide as to how my classroom should look, different teaching strategies, and different ways to make learning FUN! My #Edtech feed is filled with different ways to incorporate technology in the classroom and applying it to learning.
I could honestly say I love Feedly I am so excited to learn your experiences with Feedly, please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts and concerns of the app!!
For my learning project, I would love to learn different ways to relieve stress and anxiety through yoga. Personally, being a student and mother of one soon to be two I have a lot of stress. I have heard from many people that yoga has many health benefits and is very relaxing. I read an article online 7 ways Yoga Benefits mental health the article explains the benefits of yoga, it’s definitely worth the read!
I wanted to try it out for the longest time however, I could not fit it in my schedule. Now that I finally have time to try it out I am going to be recording and taking photos of the new positions I learn. Therefore, if you want to keep up with my journey keep up with my blog.
My name is Mackenzie Lautamus, I am a third year education student in the prek-5 program. Yorkton is where my family is I have a fiancé, a son, and another on the way (non-biological child). My experiences with educational technology have been positive. When I was younger and attended elementary school technology started to advance I believe. Throughout my school years I could see technology being used more and more for educational purposes. My first year of University I was observing and helping a grade one class and the teacher used and app on her tablet (it was a private group, so only parents would see the posts) to record attendance, post pictures of what the class is doing, as well as she was able to give the students points for good behaviour and take away point for negative behaviour. I feel blogging is a great way to communicate with students’ parents on how there child is doing at school. Blogging allows society to understand what is going on in and out of the classroom.
