My Wrap Up

So, this semester has been hectic! I am sure everyone is going through a lot as well but personally, this semester has been difficult! In January my fiance and I have decided to take in his sisters newborn baby!! We have a toddler already (which is also his sisters’ child, but we are raising him) which is difficult enough. So, finding time to keep up with my Yoga was a very difficult thing to do. At the beginning of the course, I did well on keeping

everyone updated on my progress with Yoga. I am grateful for the experience due to all the lifestyle changes I got my fiance into it, I quit smoking, I began to destress, lost weight, and my mind was peaceful. To be honest, as you can tell I have lost my ways with Yoga… Life began to take control of me again, and I pushed one of the best things that have ever happened to my mind and body away… which was Yoga. I am attempting to get back into my routine and now that the semester is over with all my classes I can get back on track!!

I apologize for not keeping everyone updated as to what’s going on!! I love sharing what I have accomplished in my Yoga progress and hope to get back at it as soon as possible! Although the course is over I plan on keeping everyone updated on new Yoga techniques and how Yoga is improving my life!

More Resources!!!

When I practice Yoga I like to have Youtube in front of me so I know I am doing the poses correctly. I found a lot of videos online of many great coaches. However, I found that Adriene’s videos are what’s best for me. I love the way she is able to describe exactly what to do for example: at the beginning of this video, she explains to breathe in and out and describing the way to move your shoulders while you are taking deep breathes. Adriene also has a soft voice in her videos which helps me personally where I do not feel as intimidated (may sound weird but it is true). I also like to have music playing in the background to relax my mind and focus on her instructions. Adriene does a FANTASTIC job!

Ditching Old Habits and Creating Healthy Habits

So… Great NEWS!!

I am going, to be honest here, I am/was a smoker. As I was practicing my daily Yoga sessions I began to realize how out of breath I was during my sessions. When I first started practicing Yoga I was not pushing myself very hard, now that I have been doing Yoga for a month now I have been increasing the intensity and adding in different poses to switch it up a little bit. This past week I had noticed myself becoming dizzy and out of breath and so I began to ask myself why am I having so much trouble. Am I struggling due to the increase in intensity? Nope… Its the fact I SMOKE! Right then and there I thought to myself is it worth smoking if I am struggling to breathe as I do my Yoga which is my favorite part of the day? I said NO!

I threw away my pack (which was a very hard thing to do, however, it will be worth it) and I replaced smoking with detox water! Best choice I have ever made. Whenever I think I want to have a smoke I take a sip of and enjoy the nice taste of fresh flavored water. It has only been a week since I have quit smoking however, I have noticed a major difference in my daily activities. I feel like I am able to play with my two-year-old son for more than a half hour without catching my breath every two minutes. If I keep up with not smoking Yoga will become even more relaxing, as well I will be saving a lot of money that will be useful for my wedding!

As well if your interested in knowing what I have included in my miracle detox drink that is taking the nicotine craving away:

  • One Full Lemon
  • Half a Cucumber
  • Mint Leafs (as many you desire)
  • I usually let the water sit overnight in the fridge and shake it up in the morning. (I personally do this so the water absorbs the flavors and nutrients)

Yoga Is Not Just A Fun Activity, The Practice Also Has Many Benefits!!

Did you know Yoga has been around for more than 5,000 years? WOW, who would have thought… I thought Yoga just became popular in the last four years to me!! I started to notice Yoga becoming more popular through my Instagram as I would scroll through my Instagram I have noticed often people I follow posting about their Yoga experience. How the effects of deep breathing and bodily experience have impacted many people.

According to WebMD Yoga does more than just burning calories and toning our muscles, but is a total mind-body workout. Yoga is a combination of stretching poses with deep breathing and relaxation. There are hundreds of different types of Yoga some are intense and some are for relaxation.

 Family Doctor Melinda Ratini MD Says:

“Yoga is a great activity for you if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease. It gives you strength, flexibility, and mind-body awareness. You’ll also need to do something aerobic (like walking, biking, or swimming) if you’re not doing a fast-moving type of yoga”

I always thought Yoga would be an awesome activity to try but I never got around too it. Wow was I missing out, it’s not just the actions that are performed through Yoga that is important. When performing Yoga we need to put our mind at ease to have that full-body effect of relaxation that performs benefits for our mental/physical health. Before I begin my Yoga session I listen to calming music to relax my mind and focus on the beauty of the music. I block out all the negativity in my life by turning off my phone and having a half hour of my day to myself connecting my body to my mind. Let me tell you, I have never felt more relaxed in my life I defiantly recommend at least fifteen minutes of Yoga per day.

I found this very interesting, I really love learning history and decided to learn some history of Yoga. I knew that Yoga was a way to achieve harmony between the heart and the soul. However, I did not know that Yoga is beneficial when it comes to high blood pressure and diabetes! Very interesting I know a lot of people who are suffering from those two diseases and hope they will take a look at my blog post!! Will definitely let them know to try out Yoga…

My Hunny Is Joining My Journey!!

Hello, my friends!!

So, I read an article called Psychology Today written by Marlynn Wei M.D., J.D. she talked on how a lot of the time patients go in to see their doctors and 80-90% of visits are STRESS-RELATED! When I first read the stats I was in shock; However, once I pondered on stress I realized my gosh we have a lot of problems with our health. When I am personally stressed my stomach begins to twist and turn where I am constantly anxious. When there is too much happening in my life my body begins to shut down. My fiance has IBS which in his situation is caused by too much stress and now my soon-to-be husband is taking medication to relieve his stress. However, he started Yoga with me!! Yay!! I read to my fiance the benefits of Yoga the weight loss and stress relief was a big hit to him especially since we are getting married in August!!

Yoga has a philosophy of self-compassion and awareness according to the article “One of the main concepts in yoga is being non-judgmental toward both yourself and others, which is a powerful tool for stress relief since much of our stress comes from us being hard on ourselves or frustrated with others.” I have only been doing Yoga for a month now and I am already experiencing the benefits. Yoga is keeping my mind on healthier habits, I quit negative habits and began to and began to train my body to be able to cope with stress and my well-being. I began to see I am losing weight and increasing my water intake which is making me feel happier and healthier. Yoga also helped with my relationship before Yoga my fiance and I had a hard time finding things to do together that we can both do (he has just had knee surgery). When he saw me to Yoga he asked to try it out and teach him some moves!! Hahaha my heart was full of joy I am really happy he is stepping out of his comfort zone to begin this journey with me!!
